The study was held via a survey in the spring of 2006 by the National Research Consortium of Counseling Centers in Higher Education. It was done in the form of a.web-based survey of 26,000 students at 70 colleges and universities across the U.S. The found that overall, 15% of college students in the U.S. thought about suicide, usually for less than a full day. Breaking it down further, they found that 6% of undergraduate students have seriously thought about suicide in the last 12 months, compared to 4% of graduate students. Overall, 5% of college students tried to commit suicide in the past year, with the majority refusing to talk to teachers, friends, or family.
