Everybody understands that the monastic Yankees and the mortal umpiring crew can't fully control the wrath of an extensive low-pressure weather system. But would it be so hard, really, for some detached voice at the stadium to inform soggy, overcharged fans about the progress of a two-hour rain delay? "That's the only thing they have to do different," said Mike Sardella from Saratoga, who was not asking for much. "Just update the fans more on the PA (system)." Sardella had suffered stoically, loyally, through the Monday night rain fiasco in the Bronx, where many fans void of information incorrectly came to believe the game would soon be canceled. They left the park after an hour or 90 minutes of fermenting. Some were quietly let back into the stadium, against the rules. Others just assumed they wouldn't be readmitted and left. It wasn't so much a plan as contrived chaos. Then again Tuesday night, worrisome storm clouds gathered overhead while Sardella and friends fretted what would happen next. As spectators bundled up against a cold mist, the game against the Red Sox started on time - with, once again, no public announcement of intent before the national anthem. You have to wonder how long fans will continue to purchase high-priced advance tickets, when any one of these games may turn into a miserable viewing experience that might...
